Hundreds of Tamils gathered this morning to take part in various activities in Morden Park to raise money for Jaffna’s Thenmaradchi district.

The ‘3rd Annual Summer Get Together’ organised by the Thenmaradchi Development Association (TDA), involved football, potato-picking and food stalls to raise money to improve education and healthcare in Jaffna.

Event organiser Dr Puvinathan said "Our aim is to help build education and healthcare facilities in Jaffna, our organisation is not political or based on religion, it was simply organised to help people in that region."

In the past, TDA has helped rebuild the partly-damaged Chavakachcheri District hospital in Jaffna and continued to send funds to prevent its closure.

TDA has also provided support to vulnerable families and widows by providing them with sewing machines and has provided funds for medicines for those injured or displaced because of the war in the Thenmaradchi region.
